Is it Covid-19 or the flu?

Some of the symptoms of flu and COVID-19 are similar, making it hard to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. Diagnostic testing can help determine if you are sick with the flu or COVID-19.

What happens if there is a positive case of COVID-19 at Rising Sun?

If a student tests positive for COVID-19 the following procedure will be followed:

  • Positive case notifies Rising Sun immediately.  (No one that tests positive for COVID-19 should be at the center)
  • The Director will follow up with the positive case and the local health department and licensor will be notified.
  • Individuals in close contact with the positive case receive an email and phone call to stay home and self-quarantine.
  • Individuals not impacted receive an email stating there was a positive COVID case and they may continue to attend in person.
  • Director and local health department initiate plan for return for the impacted students.

What happens if a child becomes ill while at Rising Sun?

If a student starts feeling ill while at the center, the following procedure will be followed:

  • Students should notify their teacher or Rising Sun staff member immediately if they feel unwell (If applicable).
  • Students will be escorted to the office and sent to an appropriate location of isolated (away from other students, but with adult supervision).
  • Staff follow health protocols and determine if student is exhibiting COVID-19 like symptoms.

The following steps will be taken when a student meets the Covid-19 symptom criteria:

  • Parent is contacted to pick up student
  • Parent has the option to get their child tested

The following steps will be taken when a student DOES NOT meet the Covid-19 symptoms criteria:

  • Typical health room protocols are followed
  • Student may be sent back to the classroom

Will masks be required?

  • If you are fully vaccinated, you no longer need to wear a mask.
  • If you ARE NOT vaccinated, you are still required to wear a mask while you are in the center.

The vaccine is not yet available for those under 12 years old, so you might be wondering how we are going to address this. We've been watching what school districts have been doing with summer school as well as seeking additional guidance from the State of Wisconsin. Effective immediately, children will no longer be required to wear masks. You may send a mask with your child if you prefer them to continue wearing one.

We will continue our enhanced cleaning practices and ask that you continue to keep our sick child policy in mind. If your child has a fever, runny nose, headache, body aches, vomiting, diarrhea, or any other signs of covid (or other illness), we ask that you keep your child home. If any of these symptoms develop while your child is in our care, we will call you to pick them up.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Are all face masks the same?

No. The CDC recommends the use of a cloth face covering that covers your nose and mouth, and can be secured with ties or ear loops. The following face coverings are considered ineffective by the CDC, face shields, bandanas, gaiter and valved masks.

What if my child has underlying conditions and identifies as high risk?

Students who have underlying conditions that may increase the severity of COVID-19 if infected, should consider alternate care options. Please consult your doctor about the best level of participation for your child.

When would Rising Sun close due to Covid-19?

Rising Sun is continually monitoring illness patterns within the center. When concerning conditions arise, the Director will work in coordination with the local public health department to determine if a temporary closure is warranted. Families will be notified accordingly.

Training:

Trainings for students and staff will be conducted regarding recommendations around the following guiding principles:

  • Physical distancing
  • Social grouping
  • Risk mitigation (traffic flow, hand washing, proper use of masks and cleaning)
